2. Area of responsibility

Area meteorological watch is provided for the Dhaka FIR.

 

3. Types of services

Briefing and flight documentation is provided as indicated in respective Aerodromes section. Wherever possible, the Pilot-in-Command or his designated representative is given is given personal briefing by MET personnel at office.

Aerodrome reports and forecasts, including trend type forecasts, are provided as indicated in the following table and respective Aerodrome.

For short flights (up to 500NM) all the en-route information is usually presented in tabular non-pictorial form, while for flights of more than 500NM a pictorial forecast with significant weather is supplied.

Runway visibility observations, manually, are provided at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Dhaka and Shah Amanat Intl Airport, Chittagong when visibility is 926m or less.

Warning for the protection of the parked aircraft is issued for squalls and gales when the mean speed of the surface wind is expected to exceed 40Kts. Warnings are also issued for other hazardous meteorological elements.

 

4. Notification required from operators

Notification from operators in respect of briefing flight documentation and other meteorological information needed by them, is normally required:

(a) for flights up to 500NM at least 3 hrs before ETD,

(b) for flights more than 500NM at least 6 hrs before ETD.
